The Fields Sculpture Park

The Fields Sculpture Park, located on the Art Omi International Arts Center campus, encompasses approximately 300 acres of farmland of which 90 acres are dotted with internationally recognized contemporary sculpture. A path for viewing the sculptures follows the edge of a natural pond surrounded by trees, providing a shaded backdrop to view the pieces.
Fields Sculpture Park was founded in 1998 as public grounds for viewing contemporary sculpture as part of The Art Omi International Arts Center. There are over 80 sculptures on view from well known international artists such as Donald Lipski, Beverly Pepper, Jene Highstein, Grace Knowlton, Bernar Venet and other accomplished artists such as Steven Siegel, Alena Ort, Peter Stempel and Nina Levy.
Each year we add approximately 10 new pieces to the park including our new site-specific sculpture program. In addition, we have temporary exhibitions arranged by independent curators and occasional one-person exhibitions.
The Fields is laid out on diverse terrain, ranging from hilly inclines to rolling farmland, dense forestry and a large pond. With well over 300 acres readily available for the display of artwork, "The Fields" is poised to become a major institution on the world art scene.
The Fields, curated by Peter Franck and Kathleen Heike Triem provides a unique location to view artwork outside of traditional museum or gallery settings. The grounds function as a public viewing place for outdoor sculpture and installations. In addition, we provide bicycles and picnic tables for use by the public to promote an informal and pleasurable context for experiencing the landscape and artwork together. We have recently instigated an education program to provide tours and workshops for school aged children.
The works on display are culled from many different sources. To date, we have sought out and installed existing artwork, and in some cases, site specific pieces have been created to capitalize on the diverse topography. In addition, some of the sculptures were produced by artists attending the Art Omi International Residency Program.
Dedicated to the display of innovative artwork and pushing the limits of traditional notions of sculpture, the curators are actively committed to seeking out conceptual art objects which surprise and challenge viewers. The collection currently contains a provocative mix of well established and emerging artists. The Fields is a tremendous resource for artists, gallerists and the public as the New York City area has precious few venues for the display of artwork in the landscape.
